Bank of America, the owner of the MBNA credit card provider has set aside a massive £365m sum to compensate for the mis selling to British consumers of PPI payment protection insurance.
MBNA, owned by Bank of America is predominantly a credit card provider who also promotes unsecured loans. In the past MBNA has provided credit cards for many other brands including. Virgin Money credit card and Abbey National credit card as well as the backing for credit cards through retail and other service providers including, Amazon Credit Card, BMI Credit Card, and many football club credit cards.
In the 1st 6 months of 2010, the Financial Ombudsman Service reported that MBNA Europe were the 12th most complained finance company in the UK, receiving 1,641 complaints, with 58% of all complaints being ruled in favour of the customer. It is highly likely that a large proportion of these complaints to the FOS were in regards to Miss sold MBNA PPI Policies.
